Tinlark Back Room Blog Vol. IV

Hi Everyone. Here's our "How the Heck is it September Already?!" blog which has our usual collection of art and objects we've seen around town and in our web travels that you can purchase for your very own homes. PLUS, don't miss our preview (after the art images) of all the awesome events happening this month in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time.

But first, how great is Deedee Cheriel's street art? We suppose her message runs contrary to the idea of collecting art, but truly, can you ever have enough art or books? Items that feed the soul transcend consumerism. Right?

And now, stuff that makes our Tinlark hearts sing...

PACIFIC STANDARD TIME:
Although a key international art center, Los Angeles, traditionally, has been unable to sustain an international art fair and related cultural events a la Basel or Frieze. That's about to as L.A. becomes a treasure trove of exhibitions and events celebrating Art in Los Angeles from 1945-1980. Organized by the Getty Foundation, Pacific Standard Time will contextualize the artistic innovation and social change in Southern California
from the end of World War II through the decades that followed. PLUS, Downtown L.A. will host two new art fairs starting September 30!

It's a LOT to see. I'll be taking clients to previews and private events, so if you're interested, please contact me.

Backroom Blog Vol. III

Happy July Everyone. Welcome to Tinlark's Backroom Blog Volume III. This month Tinlark has gone crazy for text, type, fonts, hand-lettering, words, and thoughts expressed in artful ways. Whether there happens to be more great text-based work out in the world, or whether it's just that we're noticing it more now that we're really looking, we've found so many images that inspire and delight us. We're happy to share a select few with you. Please enjoy!

Here's something crazy we've been thinking about at Tinlark HQ: Human beings have been making art for 32,000 years. And yet, every single day someone out there invents a new way to combine thoughts and materials into a unique object that we've never seen before. Something that stops us in our tracks and makes us feel deep wonder and awe. And that's a total miracle. Thank goodness for art and the people who make it!

As always, we leave you with the video of the month: HERE

Back Room Blog Vol. II

Welcome to the Back Room Blog Volume II. So much has happened since Volume I. The San Francisco art fairs and MFA shows were treasure troves of great art from emerging artists galore. In 48 hours we saw 3 fairs, 3 MFA shows, 7 gallieries, and had 3 studio visits. Here are some of the sites...

The shower dress at the entrance to ArtMrkt. (courtesy Alice*Thelma)

Performance art at the ArtPad opening party at the Phoenix Hotel (which, by the way, housed Miss Pearl's Jam House in the early 90s. Anyone else remember the advent of Jello shots?)

AND...

Ever notice how San Franciscans talk about food and coffee as if we don't have either in Los Angeles? Could start a whole other blog about that... or just give you this link to Portlandia which says it all.

And now, here are some great pieces available for you to have as your very own...

Thanks to all of our artists and supporters, too numerous to name. And to my staff, the Katherines, the Laurens, and the Josh. And very special thanks to the diehard folks who made Tinlark a part of their lives: Helen + Scott, Jonathan + Heidi, Kit + Murray, Arden + Dan, Matt + Katie, Dendrie + Adam, Seonna + Matt, Suzie, Moira, Sandra + DeDe, Sasha + Larry, Matthew + Melissa, Kenneth, Flora, Jon + Bonny, Nancy + Jason, Tiffiny + Adam, Rob + Jill, Cassandra + Joel, Eduardo, Sally + Paco, Kirston, Beth + P.K., Danny + Anya, Dave + Dawn, Anissa, Tracy + Michael, Fabienne + Jeremy, Karis + Marnie + Lee, Ashley, Kira + Ian, Deb + Bryan, Marsh, Daily Candy, Dangerbird, and lastly, that guy with the pinstriped suit, soul patch and questionable press credentials who came to every single opening and ate and drank heartily! We'll miss you all!

So that's the end of one Tinlark and the beginning of another. Look for Tinlark's booth at True Pablove  on Feb. 5th, 2011. And it's a bit of a secret, but we may have a HUGE pop-up show planned for 2011 (stay tuned). And, for all you fresh stART fans, we'll be back with the freshest show ever in February, 2012.

(it sure was a lot of laughs!)

Bye for now,

Cris McCall, Tinlark Consulting
